Firebird is a management system for open source databases, that comes from InterBase version 6.
This relational database system provides many of the features implemented in the ANSI SQL standard.
The program is multi-platform and can be used on different operating systems such as Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Other features of Firebird are: client/server architecture on TCP/IP protocal, support for transactions and foreign keys, user and role based security, and much more.
Firebird provides two different types of servers: Classic and Super Server. The main difference between them is the way they make the connection, as Super Server creates separate threads for each one.
